Understanding QuoteManager
To open QuoteManager:
- Click the New QuoteManager Window icon on the main toolbar, or
- In the main MultiCharts menu select File → New → QuoteManager Window.
Managing Data
Exporting Data
One can export data from one, several selected or all symbols into an ASCII or QMD file by
- Clicking the Export Data button
- Via File → Export Data
- Right-clicking the symbol → Export Data.
Importing Data
One can import data into a symbol from an ASCII or QMD file by
- Clicking the Import Data button
- File → Import Data
- Right-clicking the symbol → Import Data
Importing Symbol List
A text file that contains a list of symbols and their parameters can be imported instead of adding symbols one by one.
You can import a symbol list by
- Clicking the Import Symbol List button
- Going to File → Import Symbol List
Mapping ASCII
This tool can be used to indicate the path to a file populated with data. That will allow the program to find the file automatically, convert it into the necessary format based on the preset configuration and display the data every time a chart is created.
To use this tool, go to File → Map ASCII.
Deleting Data
- Select the symbol and go Edit → Delete Data.
- Check the corresponding boxes to clear data for certain Quote Field and Resolution.
- Click Check All to select all the checkboxes.
Clearing Cache
Cache stores data downloaded from the data feed server until it is saved to the local database after all MultiCharts processes are restarted or the Flush Cached Data to Database option is used.
To clear the cache, select the symbol and go Edit → Clear Cache.
Editing Data
You can view and manually adjust data stored in the database by
- Clicking the Edit Data button
- Selecting a symbol and going to Edit → Edit Data
- Right-click a symbol → Edit Data
You can switch between Level 1, Status Line, and Level 2 tabs.
The Data Range available in your database will be displayed at the top of the window.
You can click the Use the Data Range for Start/End interval button to view data for the whole available data range or set Start and End dates manually to display only the required data period.
On the right side of the Edit Data window you can use drop-down menus to select resolution and quote field to display.
Each parameter can be adjusted by clicking on the corresponding lot.
- Click Add to add another data line at the end of the list.
- Click Insert to add another data line below the selected one.
- Click Delete to erase the selected data line.
- Click Find to look for the data line with the specified parameter.
- Click Select All to select all available data lines.
- Click Copy to copy the values in the selected data line.
Flushing Cached Data to Database
Save the cached data to the database on demand without closing down all the platform processes via Edit → Flush Cached Data to Database
Collecting Data
Data collected using this option is saved directly into your database.
Check your Data server mode settings to make sure data collecting starts/continues according to your needs.
To collect values for a symbol, right-click it → Collect:
- Click Historical Data to open Historical Data Downloader and download values for the required period.
- Click Real-time data (Level 1) to start collecting real-time values for required fields and resolutions.
- Click Real-time DOM data (Level 2) to start collecting Level 2 values.
Collected values can be used for Advanced Simulated Trading once enough data is accumulated in your database.
Tools
Symbol Dictionary
This tool allows editing the existing and adding new symbol roots.
Symbol Dictionary contains a list of futures symbol roots with pre-defined contract specifications and session times.
You can open the Symbol Dictionary by
- Clicking the Symbol Dictionary button
- Going to Tools → Symbol Dictionary
Session Templates
This tool allows creating templates for rapid access to the session configurations.
You can open the Session Templates by
- Clicking the Session Templates button
- Going to Tools → Session Templates
Exchanges & ECNs
This tool allows adding/removing Exchanges/ECNs and editing their parameters.
You can open the Exchanges & ECNs by
- Clicking the Exchanges & ECNs button
- Going to Tools → Exchanges & ECNs
Custom Resolutions Manager
This tool allows creating new bar resolutions for MultiCharts.
You can open the Custom Resolutions Manager by
- Clicking the Custom Resolutions Manager button
- Going to Tools → Custom Resolutions Manager
Data Sources
In the Data Sources menu one can configure (Settings... button) and activate/deactivate available data sources.
Select the data source to see the link to the connection guide and general info.
You can open the Data Sources by
- Clicking the Data Sources button
- Going to Tools → Data Sources
Holidays
In this menu one can check, add, edit and delete different countries' holidays to indicate the days when the exchanges do not work to avoid gaps on the charts.
To disable holidays for all exchanges, check the Show data on holidays box.

- Clicking the Holidays button
- Going to Tools → Holidays
ASCII Export Scheduler
This tool allows exporting the QuoteManager data automatically on a scheduled basis according to the set of rules specified by user.
You can open the ASCII Export Scheduler by
- Clicking the ASCII Export Scheduler button
- Going to Tools → ASCII Export Scheduler
Expiration Rules
This tool is used to set the rules that will indicate the last day that an options or futures contract is valid.
You can open the Expiration Rules by
- Clicking the Expiration Rules button
- Going to Tools → Expiration Rules
Historical Data Download Scheduler
This tool allows downloading the historical data from the data provider automatically on a scheduled basis according to the set of rules specified by user.
You can open the Historical Data Download Scheduler by
- Clicking the Historical Data Download Scheduler button
- Going to Tools → Historical Data Download Scheduler
Historical Data Downloader Logs
One can open the HistoryLoaderScheduler folder to see and manage stored files.
Data Collecting Progress
You can open the Data Collecting Progress by
- Clicking the Data Collecting Progress button
- Going to Tools → Data Collecting Progress
This window displays symbols that collect real-time data and historical data downloading for sample symbols.
- OHLC – Level 1 data that can be used to plot charts.
- L2 – Level 2 data that can be used for Advanced Simulated Trading.
- SL - Status Line data.
On the right side you can see each symbol’s status:
- Off – data is not being collected.
- Connecting – MultiCharts requested data from your data provider and waits for the response.
- X quotes – indicates the amount of collected values.
Click the gear icon next to the symbol to open collection settings. Here you can change resolutions and fields that are collected for the symbol.
Click the cross to stop collecting data for the selected symbol.
To manage the symbol list or groups of symbols, click the gear icon at the top:
- Add new symbols to start collecting data for them.
- Delete symbols from the list to stop collecting data for them.
- Select All or Select None to manage symbols in bulk.
- Select resolution and quote field to collect values for.
Managing Instruments
Editing Instruments
Select a symbol and go Instrument → Edit Instrument or click the Edit Instrument button to open the symbol settings.
Adding Instruments
Instruments can be added manually and from data source (the correct symbol parameters will be provided by data feed) via Instrument → Add Symbol or click the Add Symbol button
Adding Custom Futures
Custom Futures is a symbol combined from the individual futures contracts available in QuoteManager. It is a convenient solution in case continuous futures data is not provided by the data feed.
Go Instrument → Add Custom Futures or click the Add Custom Futures button to create a custom futures instrument.
Deleting Instruments
Select the required symbol in the symbol list → Instrument → Delete Symbol or click the Delete Instrument button
Downloading Historical Data
Historical Data Downloader allows downloading historical data from the data provider without plotting a chart.
Right-click the required symbol on the symbol list → Collect → Historical Data or click the Download Historical Data button
Customizing QuoteManager window
One can adjust the QuoteManager window via the View menu.
Sort By
Select one of the sorting criteria: Symbol, Description, Exchange Listed, Category, Data Source, Collect RT Data w/o Plotting, Historical Data Download Status.
Set the sorting order: Sort Ascending, Sort Descending.
Columns
One can select, reorder and set width for the displayed columns.
- Check the boxes or use Show and Hide buttons to set columns to be displayed in QuoteManger.
- Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons to reorder the columns.
- Press Reset to go back to the default settings.
- Set the width for the selected column by putting the desired pixel amount. Column size can also be manually adjusted.
Event Log
Enable the Event Log in the View menu or by clicking the Event Log button to see the messages related to data feed connection and data requests.
Filter
One can select to view all symbols or a certain category/exchange by clicking the corresponding title in the Filter window.
Find
- Search the symbol list via Edit → Find.
- Select the column to search from the In column dropdown box.
- Enter the object to search for in the Find field.
