Volume Profile Drawing

Inserting Volume Profile Drawing

To insert Volume Profile as a drawing:

  1. Select one of four ways to insert the Volume Profile Drawing:
    • In the menu select Insert, point to Drawing and then to Volume Profile Drawing.
    • Click the Volume Profile Drawing icon on the Drawing toolbar.
    • Click the arrow next to the Drawing Tools icon on the Main toolbar, point to Volume Profile Drawing.
    • Right-click on the chart, select Insert Drawing and point to Volume Profile Drawing.
  2. The cursor will turn into a pencil .
  3. In the chart area click where the Volume Profile Drawing is to begin.
  4. Then keeping the left mouse button pressed move the pointer up, down, left, or right to position the Volume Profile Drawing.
  5. Release the button.

Moving and Reshaping Volume Profile Drawing

Moving a Volume Profile drawing without changing its form is not possible because the drawing is linked to the bars. So moving this drawing results in its reshaping along the vertical line.

  1. Point the cursor at the Volume Profile Drawing to be moved.
  2. The cursor Pointer will change into Hand .
  3. Then keeping the left mouse button pressed draw the Volume Profile of the desired size.
  4. Release the button.


To reshape the drawing along the horizontal line:

  1. Point the cursor at the frame edges of the Volume Profile Drawing to reshape the drawing tool.
  2. The cursor Pointer will change into Hand .
  3. Left-click on any edge and 4 small squares will appear in each of the corners of the Volume Profile Drawing’s frame.
  4. Drag one of these squares horizontally to change the number of bars upon which the drawing is built.
  5. Release the button.

Formatting Volume Profile Drawing

To format Volume Profile drawing use on of the following methods:

  • Drag the cursor to the Volume Profile Drawing instance that is to be formatted.
    The cursor Pointer will change into Hand , then double-click.
  • Drag the cursor to the Volume Profile Drawing instance that is to be formatted.
    The cursor Pointer will change into Hand , then right-click.
    Select Format Volume Profile Drawing from the shortcut menu.
  • In the Format Objects window select the Drawings tab.
    Select the Volume Profile Drawing instance that is to be formatted and press the Format button.

General

Refer to the description of the types and breakdowns on the page devoted to the description of Volume Profile per se.
  • Type: Tick Count, Total Volume, Sell x Buy Volume, Delta, Buy vs Sell Volume.
  • Breakdown by: Up vs Down Tick Delta, Ask vs Bid Traded Delta. Only tick data can be used for Ask vs Bid Traded Delta.
  • Build from: Ticks, Minutes, Days. “Build from” cannot be a higher resolution than your chart.
  • Ticks per row: number of minimum price increments (ticks) included in each Volume Profile row (1 tick = Price Scale * Min Movement).

Time

Allows for changing the Start and End timestamps for the Volume Profile drawing.

Style

The style of the following Volume Profile components can be configured: volume bar color, up OC, down OC, POC, value area, display text, outline, volume range, developing POC, developing VA, naked POC and naked VA.

Appearance

  • Always show entire number turns off K and M abbreviations.
  • Display above price bars puts volume profile in front and the bars in the background. By default the volume profile is in the background.
  • Alignment displays the volume profile along the right or left border.
  • Transparency regulates the transparency of the volume profile. Though the Volume Profile transparency can be set to 0%, one will still be able to see the bars of the symbol data series. That is because by default Volume Profile is shown in the background and the data series stays on the foreground.
  • Width regulates the width of the volume profile drawn on the selected time period.
  • Value area determines the area of the most traded volume of the profile.
