Definition

The Commodity Selection Index (CSI) is a technical momentum indicator that attempts to identify which commodities are the most suitable for short-term trading. The larger the CSI value, the stronger the trend and volatility characteristics associated with that particular asset. The Commodity Selection Index indicator considers directional movement, volatility, margin requirements, and commission costs. CSI identifies volatile markets for short-term trading and is widely used to compare the short-term risks associated with various futures contracts. A higher relative value indicates a security with better trending and volatility characteristics, while a lower value is considered less attractive.
