I use MS-Access primarily because (as I see it after staring at the market 8/7 for about 7 years and 8/5 for an additional 5 years) the market moves in multi-levels of waves/swings as well as bounces (what some call resistance points). It also does trend line breaks but I do not use price lines any ...

Always having RSI/%R value show in right scale (2 workaround solutions exist)

In MC.Net deselecting the precise marker setting in the y-scale window preference pane keeps markers visible. Does standard MC have this option? In your code, do you have plot1 and plot2 first, then plot3? This is a procedural language, the codes are executed line-by-line, from top to bottom. These are what I have tried. Plot1(MyRSI, "RSI" ) ; Plot2(70, "OverBot" ) ; Plot3(30, "OverSld" ) ; Plot2(70, "Over...

I suspect it has to do with speed. It takes time to make a plot on the screen. In a signal, you want to execute the orders without delay; you don't want a plot to hold you up, even for microseconds. TJ, in my current setup I open 26 symbols at start; for each symbol I have two charts: one chart of 1 minute bars and one chart of 15 minute bars. So in total there are 52 charts. As I do not have any additional tools (market scanner, DOM, T&S) open, I think my data requests are rather moderate...

I think I solved it (at least on one symbol). I had to set the number of bars back in the scanner to match exactly the chart. This is not the number of bars the study will reference but the number of bars back of the data series itself (the bars that show on the chart). I wrote down exactly what I h...

After a big break from trading due to being busy with my website, since the markets are crashing and starting to get interesting I am looking at this symbol again. I just thought I would let you know that this issue status is exactly as it was the last time I checked.

Re: Evaluate a string [SOLVED]

There is no eval command. However I was studying your logic and I think you could just do this

Code: Select all

condition1 = true;
if condition1 = true and S1 = 1 then
     then buy next bar at open;

But then again the above could be simplified down to this.

Code: Select all

if S1 = 1 then
     then buy next bar at open;

If HighDaily is an array it will not work. Your index references in an array work from element 0 to 1 to 2 and have nothing to do with the time of the bar. NumericSeries relates to price bars and the [0], [1] and [2] work back in time which is totally different. Numeric series relates to anything to...

Re: Recognize the "last value" of a data array from any bar

Hi Roman,

I studied the Wiki entry for the command. I am not sure how one would use it. Is there a way to get at the open, high, low and close of a data series with this command? Maybe I should do some forum searches to see if anyone has submitted examples (something for later today).

Thanks,

Re: How to clear the values of an array?

From the help, Dynamic arrays (arrays with an unlimited number of elements) are one-dimensional, and are initialized at declaration as having only one element. Declared dynamic arrays can be resized using Array_SetMaxIndex. I have not read about a reserve word nor have I done this but I am thinking ...

Re: Want to clear/restart my database files. [SOLVED]

I got it to work Henry. I used the (remove all files from the directory, try to load, get the error, run the repair, try it again) method. After that I had to follow the standard procedure for switching futures contracts that I use.

Thanks again,
John

Re: Want to clear/restart my database files. [SOLVED]

Hi Henry, It sounds like the 2nd approach you described is similar to the "2nd try idea" I described. Specifically my idea as to delete all the files from the database folder that MC uses and first try to start MC and after I get the error then do the repair then try to start MC again. As ...

Want to clear/restart my database files. [SOLVED]

Hi, I am starting a series of attempts at shinking my database files because they are getting large and I do not use that data. Here are the attempts and the results of the first attempt. 1/ delete the 3 database files and start MC hoping it will recreate the database files from the current backfill...

Re: TrendLine created, not displayed [SOLVED]

My charts have all sorts of trendlines and arrows and texts on them. I have used all kinds of methods to draw them, move them, delete them, hide them, resurrect them, changing attributes, etc., I have pretty well tested all coding permutations, and satisfied that there is no bugs in MultiCharts dra...

Re: TrendLine created, not displayed [SOLVED]

Hi Martin, In my case I seem to remember it being the 1 minute bars (I don't use tick charts). I do not remember exactly how the trend line was originally put there (By the program I think). I have seen this occur maybe 5 or 6 times. It is not something I can recreate at any time. It occurs totally ...

Re: TrendLine created, not displayed [SOLVED]

I have on rare occasion had trend lines not show. I check the location of the date and time in the properties for the line but they simply are not showing. I check the color and they should be visible but they are not. It is pretty rare (maybe once every 3 months). 99.999% of the time there is no pr...

Re: [Advanced Topic] EL debugging (trouble shooting) guide

I made an improvement to my debugging procedures. I try to always have the code below open in the PL editor so I can very quickly drop some new print statements or fileappend statements in any script. As always the formatting makes it very easy to display new fields simply by copying and changing th...

Useful feature request to vote on: retrain print files param

For anyone experiencing a Power Language abort and wishing the print files were retained (probably everyone) here is the place to vote for it.

Re: How to get ELcollections to read a 3 field CSV file.

Hi Martin, That's Interesting. I never thought of that I guess at the time or maybe I did not know that commands that well back then. I was going to answer earlier today with "you may be out of luck" but I got distracted by other pressing projects. I guess it was better that I did get dist...

Re: New Topic: SPY spikes

It appears that the changes to the Interactive Broker settings has not eliminated the spikes I get in the SPY chart. I have seen at least one spike during the 9:30 to 16:00 hours mark. Not a lot. If they are just IB API errors I wonder why they mostly occur outside those heavier volume trading hours.

Hi csharpstudent This is the one that probably will help you the most. It uses the List of Lists. How to get ELcollections to read a 3 field CSV file. https://www.multicharts.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6901 I am curious. Does cSharp mean you are a music student or just a sharp student? J...

Re: Finding a stock to mimic trading the E-Mini ES symbol

Thanks Arnie for the ideas. I actually use to use an external feed when using Qcharts but liked the IB feed because it was so much faster. I would get big delays in that external feed. I do not use volume and I only really use the structure of the symbol I am trading to decide on trades. At the begi...

Re: Finding a stock to mimic trading the E-Mini ES symbol

Okay guys. I have unchecked the time stamp check boxes for now. I will see if the SPY spikes seem to stop during market hours for about a week or two. If that does not work I will uncheck the one at the very bottom as well "Generate a new tick if total volume changes". I want to leave that...

Re: Finding a stock to mimic trading the E-Mini ES symbol

Hi Arnie, I have the MC "format instrument" screen "Sessions:" field set to "24 Hour" and that I guess is why I see the SPY trading until 8 pm at night and starting again at 4 am. You are correct. Most of these spikes are during the off hours. However there is the occas...
