I have a simple indicator that was created and compiled on MC 8.5 (6744) that I'm trying to share with somebody who is still on MC 8.0 (5622). Here is how I attempted to share the code:
1. I copied the compiled code from the MC 8.5 PL editor and pasted it into a Word document.
2. I copied the code from the Word doc into a new MC 8.0 PL editor indicator document on a different machine
3. I compiled the code on the MC 8.0 machine
4. I exported read-only from the MC 8.0 machine to a Dropbox folder shared with my buddy
5. My buddy attempted to Import Read-only on his MC 8.0 (5622) machine.
6. He got an "Error Code 1" dialog (see attachment)
Any ideas? This indicator is quite simple and I'm pretty sure that it does not use any new 8.5-specific functionality.
PDQ
PS: I also sent him a signal that he was also unable to import...same error code

Hello PD Quig,
Is MC 8.0 on the source machine you have used for compilation 32 bit or 64 bit?

Re: .sef file import problem
In case your friend is running the 32Bit MC than this is the problem.
"2. Protected *.sef files from any version of MultiCharts 32 bit cannot be used in any version of MultiCharts 64 bit."

Re: .sef file import problem [SOLVED]
The MC 8.0 machine on which the code was compiled was Build 5603...not 5622.
I was able to rename and import it successfully.
I did a clean re-install of 8.0 (5622) and recompiled / exported and everything worked...but that may not have been the problem. It turns out that my friend had tried to do an install of 8.5 a few months ago, but had to stop using it when it conflicted with some other software he'd purchased. When he did the install of 8.5 all the icons on the desktop were mixed in with all his 8.0 icons, and he just realized today that he was trying to import my code that I downgraded to 8.0 using the 8.5 PL Editor.
Thanks as ever for the help and sorry for the confusion. That's why I never let my desktop get cluttered with quick launch icons...
