Security Type = commodity

Postby gadol » 12 Dec 2010

Does anyone have a clue how to add XAUUSD to QM? Interactive Broker qualifies this symbol as a commodity, ie, security type = commodity, exchange = Smart. XAUUSD, it is a symbol of London Spot Gold.
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I faced the same difficulty, and solved it the following way.

(1) In your "account management", subscribe to "UK-Cleared Commodities" (free).

(2) When IB's TWS is open, do the following under QuoteManager:
Instrument / Add symbol / Manually
Data Source : Interactive Brokers
Symbol : XAUUSD
Category: Forex
Exchange : SMART
... then OK
Next window : ... OK (or change parameters as you wish)

Please make sure this security is allowed for your account by the data feed.
If it is allowed-you should be able to add it in Quote manager->Instrument tab->Add symbol->From data source-> IB->Commodity.

Hi,

On my computer, the search of any symbol in the "Commodity" does not show anything.
The window keeps writing "Waiting..."
QuoteManager log states:
Connecting to symbollist data for X CMDTY 0 0 0
TWS error message: Id= 500013; code= 200; description= No security definition has been found for the request

Note1: this symbol is authorized by my data feed (IB) since I can import it manually.

Note2: I have imported many other IB symbols with no difficulty. I think that there is a specific problem with these metals.

Hello Nicolas.
You need to input full commodity name in order to find it.
Please input XAUUSD (for ex.) and click Lookup.

Have found the same but this is not the gold spot as it trades from 8-18:30 instead of 24h Sunday to Friday. Is the Gold Spot available also?
