Bid&Ask based Backtest: Bid data is ignored

Postby TraderJ » 15 Feb 2023

BID and ASK based Backtest of a 1-min FOREX strategy does not calculate correctly. Although the BID price did not reach the entry limit of the SELL order, MultiCharts nevertheless indicates a SELL short entry as shown in the screenshot:

The backtest is configured to use separate BID (Data2) and ASK (Data1) data as shown in the screenshot:

Is there a detailed step-by-step guide on how to configure a BID and ASK based backtest?

How can I avoid the BID data being ignored?

Hello TraderJ,

The behavior is not reproduced on our end.
Could you join the live chat Monday-Friday from 6:00 AM till 12:00 AM ET to demonstrate it via remote connection?

Hi Polly, can you please share a working example of the bid&ask based backtest? It would be great if that was a FOREX example for Interactive Brokers.

Hi Polly, do you have a workspace for download, a video demonstration, or a wiki page describing your procedure so that I can reproduce it on my end?

TraderJ,

Please make sure you have followed this instruction to perform Precise Backtesting.
We have used the pre-built Channel Breakout signals on the AUD/CAD data for testing.
Please check the screenshot attached for reference.

Hi Polly, do you have an example of a BID and ASK based strategy which uses LIMIT orders?

TraderJ,

You might try adjusting the pre-built Custom Strategies (LE, LX, SE, SX), so that they use limit orders or come to our live chat MON-FRI from 6:00 AM till 12:00 PM EST, so that we could check the issue remotely.

Hi Polly, thank you for your advice. I have re-created my workspace from scratch and now BID and ASK data is applied as expected. Thank you for your help.
