tsShaper_trace.txt

Postby Nick » 14 Oct 2006

Hi my PC seems to be talking longer and longer to boot (I'm not saying this is anything to do with MC). I was browsing through my profile (looking for a culprit) and noticed several copies of the above file. Each one consuming about 300MB?

Just wonderd what it is and why so large? I guess osme sort of logging but suggest if so it would be better to use some FIFO mechanism and limit file sizes to a more reasonable amount.

Cheers,
Nick.

these would help you to clean up your system:

How do I keep (unwanted) apps from starting up?

StartupMonitor is a small utility that runs transparently (it doesn't even use a tray icon) and notifies you when any program registers itself to run at system startup. It prevents annoying programs from registering themselves behind your back.

Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It's simple to use and, like all my programs, is very small and won't burden your system. A valuable tool for system administrators!

Thanks for the links TJ . I manually deleted the log files and saved over 2gig of disc space. Windows does start quicker now, I am not exactly sure why as I dont use a roaming profile. If I did these files would be copied over the network every log on!

Anyway the suggestion still stands that perhaps MC should roll logs rather than append indefiantely. And a second thought occurs to me that storing them in the user profile is probbablly not the best place for them as these files are copied around the network at logon.

Cheers,
Nik.

Dear Nick -

This detailed logging is a temporary measure we enable din the betas, it will not be active in the public releases.
If you wish, we could send you by email or private message a registry key that will block detailed logging in the beta as well.
