Hi guys, im a tech noob, i would really appreciate any advice anyone can give me.
I currently run 6 MC windows with tons of charts, causing my com to lag / hang once a while. My current set up is a i7- 4770 @3.4ghz / 16 g ram but i still find it insufficient.
Any advice on what i should do/upgrade to for a smoother experience? Would a xeon chip or SSD make a difference?
Thanks a mill!

Re: hardware question
How many charts?
What are the resolutions?
How much back history?
How many indicators?
Any drawings in the indicators?

Thanks for reply,How many charts?
What are the resolutions?
How much back history?
How many indicators?
Any drawings in the indicators?
I have around 30 charts on each window, resolutions ranged from 15day to low of 30 mins.
back history on intraday timeframes are around one week, higher timeframes 1 month worth.
No indicators nor drawings.
Cheers.

Do you have any non-time-based charts?
eg. point & figure chart, tick chart, contract chart, etc.,

Re: hardware question
Which Windows version?
What other programs you are running?
Anti-virus?
Firewall?
Loggers?
Are you running MC as administrator?
Have you designated MC and all its components as "Safe" programs.

Re: hardware question
If your indicator code is set up to calculate on every tick with that many charts open at one time, then you will probably bog down any machine on a regular day and cause it to seize up during one of the very busy periods. You may not need to run indicator code every tick - try running indicator code once per bar at end of bar if you are not already doing that.

no anti virus nor firewall nor loggers.
Not running as admin.
i noticed my cpu usage sometimes run up to 90+ percent when loading charts.
Would a i7-8700 6 core with 32 ram solve this issue?

Re: hardware question
No not really. I have a nearly quite and very economic Intel i7-7700T with 32gb RAM and 3 Monitors at the GPU of the Mainboard with:also does a graphics card matter much?
2x 1920x1200 at 60Hz and 1x 3840x2160 at 60 Hz (Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q (Tiny): 10MV003CMZ)
with less than <10% GPU usage!
Kind regards,
LRP

When loading charts . . . of course it will run up to 90+ percent. You want your computer to load the charts as fast as possible. All my charts are time based.

Your computer is plenty powerful. You should not have any problem running your charts.

m system seems to run smoothly with 3 windows opened, when i have 6 it starts lagging and hanging, could it be due to me only have a 4 core processor? those 3 windows have about the same set up in charts as the other 3.When loading charts . . . of course it will run up to 90+ percent. Re: hardware question
MultiCharts does not utilize 3D or game-related graphics features. An expensive graphics card will not help.also does a graphics card matter much?

Please post a screenshot of your TaskManager.
How many monitors do you have?

Re: hardware question
You can open a new MC instance for each monitor.
. . . i have 3 monitors.
That should reduce the Windows graphics objects limitation, and make the Windows operation more stable.

Would you say that upgrading to a ryzen 7 2700 compared to a i7 8700 with its 2 extra cores and 4 threads better for running multiple windows and tons of charts?

Re: hardware question
You already have a very powerful computer.Hi TJ, thanks for the advice.
Would you say that upgrading to a ryzen 7 2700 compared to a i7 8700 with its 2 extra cores and 4 threads better for running multiple windows and tons of charts?
I am still using an Intel Q6600 . . . 1st gen Quadcore, with 8 GB of memory.
I used to run 20~30 charts with no problem.
You can try to reduce the intra-day chart back history; most people do not look back more than 2 days.
During a fast market, you will see a spike in CPU, that is expected.
ps. in a heavy computation environment, eg. the MultiCharts, you need REAL threads and REAL CPUs. Those extra virtual threads do not help.

could you explain what you mean by real threads and real cpu? you mean those extra threads on the ryzen arent real?

You need REAL cores for REAL work.
Think about it this way . . .
You have 10 sacks of flour.
Someone comes along and cut the sacks in half and made 20 sacks.
Do you think you can carry more flours because you now have 20 sacks?
Another example:
You have a V8 engine in your 4x4 truck.
The truck normally drives the rear wheels only.
When you engage the 4x4 transfer case, the engine drives all 4 wheels.
Do you have more horsepower because you are now driving all 4 wheels?
The answer is no, the horsepower is the same.
Under certain circumstances, 4x4 will let you go faster. But the horsepower is the same.
Re: hardware question
Hi rockaphonics. Are you already using separate Desktops in MC? If not that might be a way to improve the performance provided you don't exceed the physical memory limit. See https://www.multicharts.com/trading-sof ... g_Desktops
Also I've noticed sometimes when I run a lot of charts the number of GDI objects (use Task manager to view the number) gets very close to the MC limit of I think 7,500 without showing any warning messages but things run really slow and on occasion some charts stop updating in real-time. I get around it by creating a separate MC Desktop to display some of the charts.
