Setting a signal input to blank (empty string) doesn't work

Description

When a string input is blanked out by the user, the empty string is not given to the signal, instead the previous non-empty value is used

Steps to reproduce this issue
  1. Set a string input to a value (not empty)
  2. The signal is given the input as entered by the user
  3. Blank/delete the string input value, leaving it empty
  4. The signal is now given the PREVIOUS non-empty value, not string.Empty or null
